MCALLEN, TX - The bell (pepper)s are ringing as consumers go in search of comforting ingredients to infuse into winter holidays. GR Fresh is one grower providing a high-quality supply to meet the demands of hungry shoppers.
“Transition is upon us; peppers, eggplant, cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash, and certain varieties of tomatoes, such as grape tomatoes, are beginning to get into a good rhythm of production in Sonora and Sinaloa. Roma and round tomatoes will also be our staple items this time of year,” Tony Incaviglia, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for GR Fresh, began telling me.
Tony relayed that GR Fresh has seen some rain and cold temperatures, but nothing that warrants any sense of urgency.
“Volumes due to duties and other restraints on tomatoes will be impacted,” he added. “Some projections show as much 35–38 percent less plantings for the upcoming new year. Projected growing costs continue to increase on top of the new tomato import duties.”
On a final note, Tony pointed out that GR Fresh is ready to supply the buy-side with custom packs, year-round contracting, all the necessary required food safety audits, social responsibility programs for the labor force, and more.
