<p> The Hass Avocado Board has released its latest study detailing what drives shoppers to buy hass avocados at retail. The new study, Shopper Motivations and Influences: Driving Hass Avocado Sales at Retail, reveals recommendations to help retailers increase sales, according to a press release. Some of these suggestions include placing avocados near tomatoes or stacking avocados to convey an added level of care and quality, for example.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “In-store presentation, availability of ripe and ready-to-eat fruit, quality, and price are significant factors influencing the shopper’s decision to purchase avocados and the quantity of avocados purchased,” said Emiliano Escobedo, executive director of the Hass Avocado Board. “Because the shopping experience is so important in the decision-making process, retailers can use this information to develop effective strategies and tactics to build the category.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> According to the study, shoppers consider the following before making a decision their purchase: The quality and organization of the product display, ripeness and size of the avocados, price, and other factors such as variety, brand, organic/locally grown.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “The research was conducted of heavy and super-heavy avocado users that plan to buy avocados ahead of time or buy them on impulse,” explained Escobedo. “Independent research has shown that these segments are extremely important to the category because this consumer group accounts for 50% of avocado-consuming households; they consume nearly 90% of the avocado volume.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Last year, retail sales topped $1.2 billion for the avocado category with retail volume exceeding 1.1 billion units.
