CALIFORNIA - Weather warnings have been issued all across the state of California as a rapidly intensifying storm moves over the northern Pacific Ocean. Classified as what meteorologists call a bomb cyclone, the storm has already brought rainfall to the Golden State, with intense downpours expected through Thursday.
As reported by The Weather Channel, the low-pressure system is now helping to drag a plume of moisture called an atmospheric river into California that will impact the state through Thursday. As a result, flood watches have been issued by the National Weather Service for this storm in much of Northern and Southern California, including for the San Francisco, Sacramento, and Los Angeles regions. These floods are expected to have an even stronger impact in the Northern parts of the state where the ground has become saturated by other recent storm patterns.
From this storm, California is likely to see 3–8 inches of rain in locations with hilly or mountainous terrain, while lower elevations are likely to pick up 1–3 inches of rainfall.
In addition, multiple feet of snowfall is expected across the Sierra Nevada high country.
High winds are also forecasted across several regions, including Northern and Central California, which could see up to 50–60 mph winds.
