LEAMINGTON, ON - Westmoreland-TopLine Farms is taking another step towards growing its green initiative by debuting the company’s new 100 percent recyclable packaging. Sustainability has been key for Westmoreland-TopLine this year, as was evident at this year’s PMA Fresh Summit in Atlanta where the company showcased many of its new flow wrapped, paper-based trays.

Jimmy Coppola, Account Marketing Manager, Westmoreland-TopLine Farms“This new packaging houses many different products which we grow ourselves, from our Gourmet Browns Tomatoes, Heirloom Tomatoes, and Jumbo Slicer Tomatoes, to our Color TOV Mix and Gourmet Roma Tomatoes,” Jimmy Coppola, Account Marketing Manager, tells me, as we discuss the company’s efforts to answer the growing consumer demand for sustainably produced packaging.

Westmoreland-TopLine also showcased its new Top Seal pints, which feature the company’s Greenhouse Grape Tomatoes and Greenhouse Medley Mix Tomatoes. The company will soon be releasing all new Top Seal packaging for its Mini Sweet Peppers, Gourmet Hot Peppers, Cocktail Cucumbers and Mini Cucumbers as well.

“And there is more to come,” Jimmy adds. “We are also working to release our new fiber based compostable trays, which will house our grape tomatoes, cluster tomatoes and this is just the beginning.”

For the company, protecting the environment is the largest motivator when it came to the creation of this new packaging initiative.

“What we hope to accomplish is the reduction of plastics within our product packaging and, in time, have all of our packaging be 100 percent recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable,” Jimmy says.
