Lipman Distributes More Than 1,200 Backpacks to Immokalee Children in 5th Annual Event
IMMOKALEE, FL – As part of its commitment to the local Immokalee community, Lipman has announced that at its 5th annual free community event on August 6, the company distributed more than 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies to Immokalee elementary and middle school students.
“We look forward to our backpack distribution event every year because it has a huge impact on children and families right here in our community,” shared Jaime Weisinger, Lipman’s Community Relations Director and Board Chairman for Lipman Family Foundation. “Encouraging education is very important to us, and we hope to continue this program and serve even more children in the coming years.”
Beyond the massive distribution of backpacks, more than 30 local nonprofits were present at the event, offering free haircuts, a bicycle giveaway, a bounce house, and free food and entertainment for families. Lipman’s event partner, Ciclovia, was also in tow to provide a rock-climbing wall and exercise classes. Attendees were also treated to emergency vehicles on display and educational materials from representatives from the Immokalee Fire Control District and the Sheriff Department’s Crime Prevention Unit respectively.
As reported in a press release, the funds used to purchase the backpacks and school supplies were collected during Lipman’s “Run for Backpacks 5K.” The run was sponsored by more than 25 local organizations to help raise donations.
Along with the yearly backpack distribution, Lipman offers scholarships to both high school and college students in Collier and Lee counties, as well as a textbook reimbursement program.
