CHELAN, WA - Holiday festivities with family and friends are always exciting and sometimes overwhelming, as consumers fret over what to bring to parties and how it will contribute to the spread. Now that Chelan Fresh’s SugarBee apples are in season, customers can breathe a sigh of relief with a holiday season saved by its sweet and tangy crunch.

“SugarBee has a high color profile with beautiful white lenticils that look like stars and make it appear to sparkle,” explains Lorinda Oscarson, Marketing Coordinator.

While smaller in frame, this variety packs flavor in every crunchy bite. Retailers all over the country will be selling the variety in bulk throughout the season, and consumers might be left wondering how to use the apple with their dishes. Lucky for them, the opportunities are seemingly endless, ranging from stand-alone snacks to charcuterie boards—the list is as long as Saint Nick’s Christmas Eve to-do list.

“SugarBee is a honeycrisp cross, so it has all the best taste attributes of the honeycrisp but with a slight tangy flavor and a crisp crunch that can’t be beat,” Lorinda shares with me. “The variety also has just the right balance of sweet and tart that makes it a great eating apple but also good in salads and paired with medium cheeses. It is no shrinking violet, and has enough flavor to stand with most pairings out there.”

Retail partners are presently showcasing SugarBee apples, but don’t expect to see them on the shelves for long. Chelan Fresh expects that these pretty little things will be flying out the doors, and going-going-gone by mid-January. With a smaller crop this year, supplies will most likely be escorted home by lucky consumers faster than kids unwrapping their holiday plunder.
