SAN DIEGO, CA - Milestones are to be celebrated, especially during challenging moments like the one we are in with shelter-at-home orders in place and a global pandemic upon us. Helping to keep advocacy front of mind and evolution a top priority, Organics Unlimited is celebrating its social responsibility strategy and 15th annual GROW Month throughout September.
“We’re thrilled that our social responsibility program over the past 15 years has made a real difference and helped communities where health care, social services, and environmental education are needed,” said Mayra Velazquez de León, President and CEO of the company and GROW initiative. “With everything that’s happened in 2020, we are eager to celebrate GROW by looking back at our successes and looking forward to an incredible future.”
The campaign kicks off this week, September 1, and highlights partnerships with retailers and media to create consumer awareness of GROW’s social responsibility efforts. According to a press release, these include promoting sustainability, education, and health care to underserved communities in banana-growing regions of Mexico and Ecuador through the sale of GROW label organic bananas.

The values behind GROW label organic bananas promote fair trade and being environmentally responsible. By choosing GROW, retailers and consumers are supporting small growers, and fostering education in banana-growing communities.
With retailer and distributor support, GROW organic banana purchases have provided $2.7 million in aid since 2005. A percentage derived from the purchase of each box of GROW organic bananas is earmarked for the GROW fund. These funds are used for youth educational programs and health clinics along with dental and vision care in Mexico, clean water and early childhood education programs in Ecuador, and disaster relief and environmental initiatives.
Retailers can help promote this messaging from Organics Unlimited by sharing with consumers that they can participate in GROW Month throughout September 2020 to raise awareness of GROW’s humanitarian work by purchasing GROW label organic bananas and sharing the hashtag #VoteGROW2020 on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
