The shelf-life of the rootless, hydroponically grown lettuce is not diminished by removing the roots. Also the rootless lettuce allows the company to supply a compact package that enables retailers to more efficiently use shelf space. The packaging also permits Tanimura & Antle to ship 35% more units per pallet.
