Chefs from across the state of Georgia are getting ready to face-off to try to make the best Vidalia sweet onion recipe. The 3rd annual Golden Onion Professional Cooking Competition will take place during the 37th Annual Vidalia Onion Festival.
The cook-off will showcase the Vidalia onion, the official Georgia state vegetable, and offers a platform for talented chefs throughout the region to showcase their skills.
A panel of five judges will taste and score each dish on the basis of taste (50%), the chef’s verbal presentation (5%), visual presentation (10%), creativity (15%), overall use of Vidalia® onions (15%), and following the recipe submitted during the application process (5%).
The five judges will be: Chef Holly Chute, Chef Linton Hopkins, Chef Christopher Smith, C.F.B.E., Bob Stafford, and Hope S. Philbrick, according to a press release. New for 2014, a floor judge, Chef Hilary White, will also monitor the competition and ensure that all the rules are followed.
This event is sure to bring out the best in Vidalia recipes as well as talented chefs from across the state.
