CGTFL Sacramento Meeting

Mon. February 27th, 2012

On this Special Report, Barry Bedwell, President, CGTFL and George H. Soares, Managing Partner, Kahn, Soares and Conway, LLP join AndNowUKnow to talk about this year’s Annual Government Relations Trip. A small group from the California Grape and Tree Fruit League assembled in Sacramento, California for this year’s discussions.

Barry Bedwell shared with us, the intricacies of the twenty-four hour window here in Sacramento. The group that attended the annual meeting is limited to a number under fifteen individuals in order to create a specific dynamic that allows for the most productive work to be done in communicating, learning, and relationship building with regulatory and legislative communities. Mr. Bedwell, notes, that one of the most important aspects of these meetings are when honest conversations can be held without posturing, allowing for some of the motivations to be understood behind what is really happening in Sacramento. It’s these interactions and relationships that can occur between members, legislators and regulators, that make this environment important.

George H. Soares, Managing Partner, Kahn, Soares and Conway, LLP, reflects that their firm feels very fortunate to be able to represent an organization like the CGTFL, that is so committed to this type of interaction with public officials. Without it, he notes, the kind of change that is needed would not be achieved for league members and for California agriculture. Mr. Soares looks forward to going back to those legislators and those regulators that attended the meeting and reinforcing the points that were made throughout the course of the annual trip.

http://www.cgtfl.com/
