Ron Huff, President and General Manager, Vegetable Growers Supply, joins AndNowUKnow to discuss the rise in pricing on boxes and what growers, packers, and shippers can do to mitigate the price increase.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Paper companies have announced paper price increases on their liner boards. The increase is consistent across companies at about $50 more per ton and is effective in a few weeks. Without mitigation, the annualized increase in cost for the average farmer is expected to be significant.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Mr. Huff encourages farmers to take a look at their box to see if it is the right box. Look at the weight of the box, the footprint as well as the gaps in the boxes; how it is constructed. The industry can also look at how many cartons they are using and what type of box they are using and can discover if there is a way to use all of the same type of box. Boxes can be differentiated with artwork. Offshore suppliers, when necessary, can also be used to mitigate cost. <hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">
