Stater Bros.' Efforts Prove Not to Be A "Waste" of Time

<p><strong>SAN BERNARDINO, CA</strong> - Stater Bros. is treading lightly for the second year in a row, receiving a Waste Reduction Award for its array of environmentally friendly programs. The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) honored Stater Bros. with the award, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> In 2011, the company eliminated 125,780,911 pounds of waste from landfills. A couple of the company's programs include recycling cardboard, lightening up the load in landfills by 70 million pounds, and its Green Waste Composting Program, reducing landfills by nearly 40 million pounds last year alone. The company has also been recycling sustainable rendering products, donating food to local food banks and recycling plastic bags.
