German grocer Aldi is continuing to make its presence known in the United States. The retailer is now getting ready to break ground on a new 650,000 square foot distribution center and division headquarters on May 1 in Rosenberg, Texas. This new facility is the precursor to Aldi’s extensive expansion in the state as the company prepares to open another store next month.
This new facility will open in early 2016 and is expected to bring more than 150 jobs and more than $60 million to the Rosenberg economy. Meanwhile, the new Rosenberg store will be Aldi’s 17th in the Houston area. All of Aldi’s 30 Houston-area stores are expected to open within the next two years, creating 400 jobs and representing more than $125 million in capital investment, according to Houston Business Journal. So far, the retailer has grown to more than 1,200 stores in 32 states.
Previously, we reported that Aldi also recently acquired a 55-acre site in Moreno Valley to establish its Southern California regional headquarters as part of its plans to open 650 new stores in the U.S. over the next five years. This 850,000 square foot distribution center is intended to serve about 200 stores in the region.
