I recently got in touch with Michele Youngquist, President, to gain some insight into the grower’s upcoming season and retail opportunities.
“We take pride in being one of the largest producers of painted and ornamental pumpkins and organic winter squash in Western Washington,” Michele said. “This season, our volume shows we can offer ample supply to our retail partners.”
To best maximize a bountiful harvest, Bay Baby provides great support for in-store merchandising. Customized pallet displays, grab-and-go organic squash bags with cooking recipes, and ready-to-display cases ensure sustainability efforts are being maintained throughout the supply chain process in conjunction with Bay Baby’s retail partner’s sustainability efforts.
To ensure a quality harvest, Bay Baby utilizes drip irrigation and plastic mulch once the fields are prepped and ready. The drip irrigation system allows the root zone to remain moist, creating a delicate balance of water and air around the roots for optimal growth.
“Our farming team has been preparing our soil and fields for planting to ensure top quality and unique pumpkin varieties and winter squash throughout the fall selling season,” Michele continued. “Planting will occur over a four to six-week cycle to ensure crops are harvested at peak time, with pumpkins and squash maturing around 100 or so days.”
