With Easter only two weeks away, category promotions are well underway for several varieties of fresh produce items. Today, we're joined by Steve Lutz, Executive Vice President of the Perishables Group, to get his impression on what's hot and what's not as we head into Easter. Mr. Lutz expanded on the above-average performance expected from fresh berries this Easter. Although weather played a limited role in decreasing production earlier this year, most districts have recovered fully and are well into peak production. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery and cucumber are also expected to do very well during the Easter holiday promotions. While some categories enjoy sales spikes during Easter, others experience a temporary slump. Avocados and bananas usually experience a flat sales period, which is then quickly mitigated by the arrival of Cinco De Mayo promotions.
