IRELAND - There is nothing quite like the mouthwatering taste of a delicious banana cream pie—or banana pudding, banana bread, you name it. I’m a sucker for nearly any dessert that features banana as the centrepiece. Soon, this distinct yellow fruit will find its way into the homes of shoppers across Ireland as they prepare to get creative with their dessert menus, as Fyffes has backed the celebrity cook-it-yourself advocate, Donal Skehan, in his latest mission to find Ireland’s best banana dessert creation.
“We witnessed some exceptional entries last year for the banana bread initiative, so we are excited to see how families around Ireland take up this challenge,” said Fyffes Marketing Manager Emma Hunt-Duffy. “Aside from raising awareness of what a fun and versatile fruit the banana is, we want to capture as many creative ideas, ingredients, and recipes as possible, then share them far and wide.”
The event is part of a series of celebrations for National Banana Day on April 21, during which Fyffes will be supporting the national drive to encourage more shoppers to consider bananas when choosing a natural and nutritious option to enjoy, according to a company release.
In preparation for this exciting event, shoppers will be filling their carts to the brim with bananas to begin experimenting with delicious new desserts to stand out amongst a crowd of creative and talented home bakers. Celebrity partner Skehan takes on this ambitious search following last year’s success, when he was tasked with judging Ireland’s most innovative banana bakers, ultimately giving national recognition to the talents of winner Gillian Carney.
Entries for the competition are open from April 14-19. Winners will be announced on National Banana Day, and rewards will be given to the overall winner and multiple best category winners.
