International Fresh Produce Association Comments on Appointment of USDA Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs

NEWARK, DE & WASHINGTON, DC - In May 2022, Alexis Taylor, Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, was nominated as Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). On December 21, 2022, she was officially appointed to the role, earning support from organizations such as the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA).

The International Fresh Produce Association recently issued a statement of approval after the USDA announced Alexis Taylor as its new Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs

“The International Fresh Produce Association welcomes the United States Senate confirmation of the appointment of Alexis Taylor as the USDA Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs,” IFPA said in a statement. “Ms. Taylor brings a wealth of expertise and experience that are crucial to helping expand U.S. agricultural exports and to advance sound, science-based international trade policies around the world. IFPA congratulates Ms. Taylor and looks forward to working with her to promote the global consumption of healthful and nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables.”

Alexis Taylor, Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, United States Department of AgricultureTaylor was appointed to the role of Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture in December 2016 by Governor Kate Brown, a prior statement from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack explained. In her previous role, she oversaw policy directives for Oregon’s 38 programs and 500 employees.

She is a veteran of the U.S. Army and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and minor in Communications from Iowa State University.
