WASHINGTON, DC - The recent election has ushered in a new chapter of leadership in Washington, paving the way for potential shifts in agricultural policy, the farm bill, and trade. Republicans now hold control of the House, Senate, and White House. President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to take office while nominating key Cabinet members to shape his administration.

Amid these changes, the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) remains steadfast in its mission to expand access to fresh produce and promote its consumption, all while upholding the highest standards of safety and reliability. Following the election, IFPA extended its congratulations to President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance. In a November 6 statement, IFPA Chief Executive Officer Cathy Burns reaffirmed the association's priorities and its commitment to collaborating with the new administration to support the fresh produce and floral industry.

"As we move into the next chapter of U.S. leadership, IFPA stands ready to work collaboratively with the incoming president and the new administration," she said. "We are unwavering in our mission—to build our members' prosperity by increasing access to and consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, and floral products, a critical step in building a healthier, more resilient future for all Americans."

In addition to improving access to fresh produce to address diet-related diseases and enhance health outcomes, IFPA outlined key policy priorities. According to a press release, these include advocating for a farm bill that strengthens the specialty crop safety net, boosts research, and expands tools for accessing new international markets. Burns also stressed the urgent need for reforms to the H-2A program, which is essential for ensuring reliable labor solutions to sustain the nation's food supply and meet global demand.
