Farm workers and activists protesting outside a Wendy’s shareholder meeting in Manhattan Thursday, were joined by Kerry Kennedy to press the company to sign an agreement safeguarding working conditions for Florida tomato pickers.
McDonald’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell and other chains have already signed the pact with the Florida-based Coalition of Immokalee Workers. At the protest, the group was joined by advocates from New York City Fair Food, and Amnesty International USA, according to Newsday New York.
Kennedy currently heads the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Human Rights. She took an active role in the protests on Thursday, leading a chant of: "What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!"
Bob Bertini, Wendy’s Spokesman, said the company had no comment on the demonstration.
