RICHMOND, VA - The Viva Fresh Expo is just around the corner, bringing some of the best of the Tex-Mex corridor to San Antonio for an opportunity-filled event, burgeoning with fresh ideas. As we look to the end of April, Magic Sun is priming to add to the enormous value of the show with a tomato program built for success.
Sales Manager Anthony Otto took a moment during his busy week of pre-planning to speak about what the company will be showcasing this year.
“We have been working hard to build our tomato offerings, and we have a great line up of conventional and organic tomatoes to bring to market,” Anthony shares with me. “Beyond being a leading TOV and beefsteak grower in Mexico, we've converted nearly 20 percent of our crop to organic tomatoes, and have an excellent new snacking tomato line ready to go this year.”
Magic Sun made a big investment this year to increase its snacking tomato offerings, and alongside the company’s popular cocktail tomatoes, the team will be showing off new grape tomatoes, a snacking medley, and organic grape tomatoes.
“We love Viva Fresh because of the regional focus. There is a great sense of community, focused educational sessions, and the attendees know that they will get to see exhibitors with a strong presence in the area,” Anthony shares. “With the limited timeframe and all the 10-foot booths, I think the show format does a great job of encouraging people to get right down to business. We are excited to show how we can build value with our retail and distributor partners by providing fresh, attractive, great-tasting tomatoes direct from our greenhouses.”
Magic Sun's expanded acreage and the new varieties added this year will benefit customers by bringing them the convenience of having a broader selection available with that same consistent greenhouse quality.
So, what else is Magic Sun excited about?
“We were honored that Viva Fresh selected our own CEICKOR University as a Gateway to Innovation showcase finalist for this year’s show. CEICKOR University is 100 percent focused on protected agriculture education, and we are graduating the first class in the new Protected Agriculture Engineering degree program this spring,” Anthony notes with excitement. “The university program continues to expand, and has had a very positive effect on the industry through research and education. We are excited to see this important work being recognized.”
