NEW YORK - Two Chiefs and a new President, oh my! Northeast Grocery, the parent company of Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Friendly Markets has unveiled the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer, welcoming John Persons to the role. In addition, Mike Miller has been named Chief Administrative Officer, and Ron Ferri has been named President of Tops Friendly Markets.
"After nearly 40 years of learning and growing with Tops, I'm excited to continue building the company in this new role, working collaboratively with the talented teams at Tops and Price Chopper/Market 32 to help our combined businesses meet the grocery needs of the communities we serve," Persons commented. "Among the tremendous workforce we've developed at Tops, Ron Ferri stands out as someone who understands our communities and cares deeply for our customers. As he has for over 30 years, he'll continue to give this job his all. Ron is well-prepared to lead Tops forward."
With this appointment, Persons will oversee both the Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Markets operating companies, as well as the Northeast Shared Services (a subsidiary of NGI providing services to both operating companies) merchandising and marketing functions.
As a press release noted, he joins NGI after 39 years with Tops, serving most recently as the President of the grocery chain. During his time with Tops, he has had oversight of various functions, including operations, merchandising, sales and marketing, real estate, information technology, and organizational strategy.
Thirty-four-year Tops veteran Ferri will succeed Persons as Tops' newest President. Ferri began his career at Tops as a Produce Clerk in 1989. Since then, Ferri has held many store-level and executive management positions since.
In addition to this leadership transition, Miller has been named Northeast Grocery's Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
Previously serving as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Administration at Northeast Shared Services, Miller will now lead the human resources, legal, government affairs, corporate communications, public relations, risk management functions, and merger integration.
