<p> Now celebrating its 90th anniversary, Ocean Mist Farms is launching into the upcoming artichoke season this March with a wide variety of exciting activities to get consumers and retailers ready for the generous supply of fresh artichokes coming in from Castroville.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> The company anticipates seeing its popular Castroville Heirloom artichokes reach peak volume from March through May, according to a press release.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> “Ocean Mist Farms’ Heirloom variety has also been the variety chefs preferred for years,” said Kori Tuggle, Director of Marketing and Business Development. “Most chefs refer to this variety as the ‘red label’ referring to the red font color of our carton for the last several decades.”<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> Chef Curtis Stone of Bravo TV’s Top Chef Masters visited Castroville on Monday for a field tour of Ocean Mist’s heirloom artichoke crop. He and his team from his new restaurant Maude visited to prepare a menu that will feature artichokes in a nine-course fixed menu during March.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> As March rolls in, Ocean Mist is encouraging consumers to look for its retail display and social media contests featuring the hashtag #heirloomartichoke to promote its crop this season. In addition, the company will send out an “Arti Alert” each week to its Artichoke Club members to help them find where Heirloom artichokes will be on sale.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Last but not least, the Annual Castroville Artichoke Festival will be held at the Monterey County Fairgrounds on May 31 and June 1 – the highlight of peak season.
