SOUTH AFRICA - Criminal activity was thwarted this past weekend as yet another fresh produce shipment fell victim to illegal substances. The South African Police Services (SAPS) uncovered half a million rand (~$32,638 USD) worth of marijuana hidden within a shipment of cabbages.

According to a statement released by the SAPS, 23 bales of marijuana were hidden underneath the fresh vegetables. Concern was raised when a white pickup truck passed near the Vryheid Junction, and the police force decided to pull the vehicle over.

The SAPS placed two suspects under arrest in connection to the discovery, who each appeared in court on Monday.

As for the cabbages used to disguise this dastardly deed, we are just thankful that our precious fresh produce did not see the act successfully carried out.

As we hear more happenings in the realm of fresh produce, ANUK will be sure to report.
