TAMPA, FL - Molten hot lava will be pouring over produce aisle displays as Oppy prepares to bring its latest product to market: Lemon plums—also known as Volcano plums. Within the first few weeks of 2023, this colorful and delicious variety will be hitting store shelves via the prominent produce marketer.

Carl Immenhausen, Sales Manager, Oppy“Many still call it the Volcano plum because it looks like lava is pouring down its sides when the red coloring starts to present itself,” said Sales Manager Carl Immenhausen. “Their skin blushes as they ripen, so there is no guesswork about when to eat them.”

Representing one of the largest Lemon plum crops brought to North America, Oppy is starting off the plum season with this specialty item the first week of February through mid-March. Limited volumes will arrive on the East Coast for a select niche market, according to a press release.

“It’s a fun and different variety to bring home. Consumers love watching it change color from yellow to red and enjoying a unique summertime flavor during the winter months,” shared Immenhausen.
