PALM SPRINGS, CA - The Produce Marketing Association’s (PMA) first Board of Directors Meeting for 2015 was one that yielded several satisfactory results, according to a press release.
“We’re seeing incredibly strong support in membership renewals, which shows us that we’re doing our job to provide global, balanced, and differentiated value that our members are asking for,” Kevin Fiori, PMA Board of Directors Chairman and VP of Sales and Marketing for Sunkist Growers, said. “We also had a tremendous amount of energy in discussions centered on the environment members’ face as well as the association’s role in demand creation and marketing activities to boost fruit and vegetable consumption.”
Among the key decisions made as a result of the meetings was the creation of a Global Task Force which will evaluate PMA’s strategy within the global marketplace, as well as a Marketing Task Force to create opportunities the will drive fresh produce consumption and floral demand.
The meeting extended over three days and covered topics ranging from global trade and future talent needs, to omni-channel fulfillment, analysis of the environment members’ face, efficient use of natural resources, and PMA's role in driving demand.
Discussions taking place over the number of days the Board met included responding to the industry’s challenge of increasing food production with fewer resources, sustaining global connections, and eat brighter! Leadership issues and demands were also covered, and according to the release, the PMA Foundation Board gave enthusiastic support towards a developing initiative by graduates of its Emerging Leaders Program in which great eating behaviors at industry events are modeled.
