Hall tells AndNowUKnow that the slowdown in volume resulting from East Coast weather conditions has ended, and the volume that should have shipped in December is now flowing and more volume than usual is available. Suppliers are shipping 31 million avocados per week from Mexico, leading up to about 41 million for the Super Bowl.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Jan DeLyser, Vice President Marketing at California Avocado Commission, told AndNowUKnow that peak avocado consumption periods include Super Bowl, Cinco de Mayo, and Fourth of July. Industry experts say that while the Super Bowl is a key time for marketing avocados, the end of December is the best time for retailers to initiate promotions, because college games and NFL play-offs ensure a steady demand every weekend, allowing retailers to capitalize on multi-week promotions.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding">Cross merchandising opportunities also exist for retailers. Keeping ripe fruit available is also a key aspect of effective marketing during this time, when many shoppers expect to eat avocados the same day they are purchased. This can be tricky, because of the volume that is moving through the system at this time.
