Griffin Inc., has donated $49,000 to the Canadian Potato Museum as a result of a successful potato sales promotion in February. During this month, 198,000 ten pound bags of Heritage Netted Gems from W.P. Griffin Inc. of Elmsdale, Prince Edward Island were sold at Sobeys and Foodland retail locations in Atlantic Canada, with 25 cents from each bag going to the Potato Museum.

“The Canadian Potato Museum is ecstatic with both the exposure and monetary contribution realized through this promotion,” according to Museum Director Bill MacKendrick. “Proceeds from the promotion will be used toward future projects at our non-profit museum. This promotion demonstrates how businesses can work together to achieve great results and the Canadian Potato Museum wants to issue a heart-felt thank you to all involved. Funds from this promotion will allow the Museum to continue to enhance our programming and grow the facility into a must-see tourist attraction and educational experience in Western Prince Edward Island.”

Kevin Kane, Produce and Floral Specialist for PEI and Northern Nova Scotia at Sobeys, said that “Sobeys is committed to serving our communities and buying local. The ‘Potato Lovers Month Event’ did both in partnering with W.P. Griffin Inc. to raise funds for the Museum. We asked our Sobeys and Foodland stores to step up to the challenge, and they delivered more than we expected. We would like to thank our customers, stores, W.P. Griffin Inc., and the Canadian Potato Museum for making this happen.”

John Griffin, President of W.P. Griffin Inc., added that they “are proud to support the Canadian Potato Museum. We strive to raise awareness of the Museum to the public and hopefully increase attendance. The Museum is an excellent facility which has made an excellent effort in preserving the history of the potato industry in Canada.” John also thanks consumers in Atlantic Canada for purchasing their Heritage Netted Gems and, in doing so, supporting the Museum.

Also, the promotion included a Grand Prize consisting of a trip for two to Prince Edward Island, complete with a two night stay at the Rodd Mill River Resort, travel allowance, meals and a round of golf for two. Over three thousand entries were received for this Grand Prize and the winner was drawn following the check presentation. The Museum wishes to thank the Rodd Mill River Resort for their generous donation of this Grand Prize.

Sobeys
