WENATCHEE, WA - Once a year on August 15, cherry lovers young and old step out onto their front porches to shout into the night sky. Why, you ask? Because it’s Stemilt’s annual Chant at the Moon Day! Of course, to accompany such an activity, one must be armed with the grower’s coveted A Half Mile Closer to the Moon® cherries.
“As the gravitational pull of a full moon draws all the nutrients from the soil into the leaves of cherry trees, flavor and sugars are optimized in A Half Mile Closer to the Moon cherries,” Kyle Mathison, fourth-generation cherry grower, said to ANUK yesterday. “Today, we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Moon cherries on National Chant at the Moon Day singing to the night sky for another decade of these delicious morsels. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy the sweet, summertime flavors of A Half Mile Closer to the Moon cherries on this special day harvesting with the moon.”
A Half Mile Closer to the Moon cherries are grown by Mathison at high elevations starting at 2,600 feet above sea level. A press release explained that he believes in farming with the moon and harvesting when the moon’s gravitational pull is greatest, giving the roots of cherry trees an extra boost of nutrients to optimize sugars and flavors. As such, National Chant at the Moon Day was born.
