MCALLEN, TX - Partnerships play a critical role in the success of companies in the produce industry. This is something Tony Incaviglia, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for GR Fresh, reminds me of as we discuss the supplier’s transition between growing regions and the logistical factors currently impacting the industry.
“Overall, the weather this season was not the real challenge for a change. It pushed back plantings and harvest, but the severity wasn’t as impactful as the state of the economy has been on our industry,” Tony notes. “With buying patterns changing and rising costs impacting logistics and production across the board, developing those true business partnerships is even more important as we battle this ever-changing landscape in our industry.”
Over the coming weeks, GR Fresh will transition its entire commodity menu—which includes tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, eggplant, and squash—from western Mexico to the Torreón and Coahuila regions.
As Tony imparts, the summer growing regions are showing very nice conditions, with all commodities projected to be in production by June.
As the grower lines itself up for a successful season in eastern Mexico, Tony also emphasizes the importance of developing and maintaining strong partnerships within the supply chain.
“Markets are markets—they rise, they fall. You can’t worry about what you can’t control,” Tony advises. “What we can control is developing that new committed business, and even more importantly, keeping that which we do have.”
A powerful partnership begins with a commitment to growth and collaboration, and that’s exactly what GR Fresh brings to the table.
