WASHINGTON, DC - After missing out on in-person shows for more than a year due to the pandemic, industry events abound this September, and United Fresh Produce Association’s 2021 Washington Conference is one of the next to arrive. Recently, the association announced that Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) will be the keynote speaker at its Wednesday morning General Session Breakfast, taking place September 22 at 8:00 a.m. EST at the Grand Hyatt Washington.
Senator Stabenow currently serves as Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee and will share her insights and vision on how to address current policies, opportunities, and hurdles the produce industry must overcome, according to a press release.
In 2000, the Senator made history as the first woman from Michigan elected to the United States Senate. As Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, she authored the 2014 Farm Bill, strengthening agriculture and making historic investments in land and water conservation, as well as clean energy, local food systems, specialty crops, cutting-edge research, and bio-based manufacturing.
Building on the success of the 2014 Farm Bill, Senator Stabenow coauthored the 2018 Farm Bill, which passed on a strong bipartisan vote of 87-13, the most Senate votes ever. During her tenure, she has also led efforts to protect and expand access to fresh produce for children and families.

The Washington Conference will take place next week from September 20–22 in Washington, DC, and will include face-to-face Congressional meetings on critical issues such as labor, food safety, nutrition policy, infrastructure and more. The event will also host a Produce Advocacy Bootcamp for attendees new to communicating with Congress, workshops detailing the public policy issues facing the industry, general sessions with top national leaders, and networking events throughout.
