Wegmans Food Markets is looking to enter a new market. The Rochester, New York, chain is said to be close to a deal to open its first Boston store in the Fenway neighborhood, according to Boston.com.
The Wegmans location would set up shop at the Landmark Center complex at the corner of Boylston Street and Brookline Avenue.
Jo Natale, Wegmans spokesperson, told AndNowUKnow, "We are very interested in the (Landmark Center) site in the Fenway neighborhood. Discussions with the developer are underway, and we anticipate that an acceptable agreement can be reached in the near future."
Mayor Thomas M. Menino first announced plans for the Fenway Wegmans location on Monday in a speech before the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, revealing the city’s recent growth spurt and an influx of new residents, retailers and other businesses remaking the city’s downtown core and its outlying neighborhoods.
It is said that Wegmans had been shopping for a location in the Fenway or South End for several months.
