DELTA, B.C. - Windset Farms® is continuing their partnership with CityReach Care Society to develop and assist low income families in the city of Vancouver. Since Windset’s first donation in 2010, they have donated over 30,000 kilograms of fresh produce to CityReach’s “Food for Families” program.
“We support healthy lifestyles and that of course, includes a healthy diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables”, says John Newell, COO of Windset Farms®. “We hope that by donating our vegetables to CityReach Care Society, we can increase the accessibility of fresh produce to everyone in our community.”
Beginning with a three-year grant from World Vision to tackle local poverty, Food for Families now serves over 850 adults and children every week. Now, over 6 years later, Food for Families is entirely self-funded, mostly through fruits and vegetables donations by Windset Farms® and other local farms.
According to a press release, Food for Families’ mandate is to serve wholesome, nutritious foods by providing families with an assortment of fresh produce, protein, dairy and grains. The organization also offer supplemental programs like community kitchen cooking classes, which teach parents how to cook healthy, balanced meals on a budget.
