Whole Foods Harvest Reaps Support

<p>Six weeks may be a short amount of time for pregnant elephant or the Century Plant, but for Whole Foods Market and its shoppers, it is more than enough time to raise $2 million for the Whole Kids School Garden Program. Through instore and online support, the program, in partnership with FoodCorps will fund $2,000 grants for schools in the U.S. and Canada to support school gardens.<hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="legacyRuler"><hr class="invisible minimal-padding"> With the $235,000 received from Whole Food's Living Social offer, 1,000 more school gardens will be funded. Nona Evans, executive director of the Whole Kids Foundation states, "The support we have received from over a million shoppers is humbling and deeply appreciated. We&rsquo;ve already received 300 applications from schools and garden-related nonprofits who are interested in implementing or expanding school gardens.&rdquo; Each of the grant recipients will also receive &ldquo;How to Grow a School Garden&rdquo; by Arden Bucklin-Sporer and Rachel Pringle.
