AMADO, AZ - Wholesum Family Farms, the organic grower-shipper of certified organic produce for its Wholesum Harvest brand is breaking ground on a 12-acre greenhouse. The undertaking is the first of five greenhouses the company has in the works in Amado, Arizona. Together, the five greenhouses will supply 60 acres for growing in a region that provides more than 300 sunny days during the year. The first of these facilities will supply certified organic beefsteak and vine tomatoes, allowing for a year-round supply of the company's organic produce. For a company who has grown and shipped a large quantity of its produce from Mexico, the new greenhouses will allow increased domestic production.

The 40 employee facility furthers the company's commitment to sustainability with a closed design utilizing air re-circulated through the greenhouse resulting in energy savings of an estimated 30 percent. Reused rain water will also provide savings of 40 percent. “We see an opportunity to expand our presence in the market,” said Ricardo Crisantes, vice president of sales and marketing for Wholesum Harvest. “The demand for organics is there. The new greenhouse will help to ensure that we have the supply to meet that demand, particularly in summer months when the appetite for domestic produce peaks.”

www.wholesumharvest.com
