Ippolito International's Taina Rodriguez Discusses Cauliflower Market

SALINAS, CA - Ippolito International recently concluded its Yuma, Arizona, season and is now growing cauliflower in Salinas, California, as Taina Rodriguez, Commodity Manager, Cauliflower, tells me. The grower’s cauliflower production for the season has started strong, with a significant volume of high-quality product.

“In terms of pricing, we’re observing a range between $20 to $22, which is similar to last year. Our ample volume and abundant supply in Salinas ensured a seamless transition between the Salinas and Yuma regions. However, looking at the extended forecast starting the week of April 15 and April 22, we expect lighter supply numbers, which may drive this market to be higher and more active,” Taina explains.

Recent weather patterns, characterized by cooler days with light rain, have been beneficial for Ippolito’s cauliflower supply. These conditions are ideal for cauliflower growth, Taina says, and the supplier is pleased to have not experienced any growing issues so far.

“Cauliflower has become increasingly popular, and people have found innovative ways to enjoy the vegetable. It is no longer just a side dish but is now commonly used as the main dish,” Taina continues. “There are various new trends such as cauliflower crust pizza, cauliflower steak, cauliflower buffalo bites, cauliflower rice, and much more. This growing market has led to an increase in demand, making room for promotional volumes.”

As Ippolito continues to monitor market dynamics and weather patterns, the company remains committed to delivering premium-quality cauliflower to meet the evolving demands of consumers.
