YERINGTON, NV - Peri & Sons Farms, a third-generation family farm growing onions in Nevada and California, is rolling out compostable PLU stickers on its Organic White, Yellow, and Red onions. The company will showcase the new stickers alongside its Earthbag® packaging at booth #830 during the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show, October 14 to 16 in Orlando, Florida.
"Produce stickers are small, but they add up. Traditional PLU stickers are made from plastic. They can't break down, so they often end up in landfills or contaminate compost streams. It's one of the most common complaints we hear from consumers, especially shoppers working to cut waste at home," said Kelsey Weingart, Brand Manager, Marketing for Peri & Sons Farms, in the recent release.
Compostable isn't the same as recyclable. Peri & Sons' new stickers break down naturally; no recycling plant is needed, so you can compost the sticker right along with the onion peel.
"Sustainability isn't a checkbox for us," said Kelsey. "We take it seriously, and we're always looking for new ways to bring that commitment into real life, down to the smallest detail of how our onions reach the shelf. It's a small sticker, but each one counts."
The stickers extend the work Peri & Sons started with Earthbag® packaging, which is plastic-free, compostable, and recyclable. The company is also trialing paper tags and plastic-free mesh as it continues to reduce plastic across its packaging. Together, these steps give retailers a simple story to share with shoppers: USA-grown organic onions from a family farm that thinks in generations, not seasons.
The rollout is happening in phases. Retailers will see the new compostable stickers appear across Organic White, Yellow and Red onions as current inventory cycles through, with no change to how they order, stock or sell.
Show attendees can visit Peri & Sons at booth #830 to see the stickers up close and talk with the team about sustainable packaging, Sweetie Sweet® onions and the farm's Focus on Flavor commitment. Retailers can also contact their Peri & Sons Sales representative for rollout details.
SALINAS, CA. - One year after entering the retail salad kit category, Church Brothers Farms is expanding its Little Gems Salad Kits with three new flavors: Hot Honey, Sweet Onion, and Tuscan Zest. The additions bring the lineup to seven kits, joining Caesar, Champagne, Creamy Chipotle and Miso Ginger.
Like the original four, the new kits are built on buttery, crisp Little Gem lettuce blends, dressings made with avocado oil, and right-sized 8.5oz bags.
The New Flavors
Hot Honey: Think of your favorite hot honey chicken sandwich, deconstructed into a fresh, craveable salad. Sweet heat, savory flavor, and an irresistible crunch that keeps you coming back for more.
Sweet Onion: A modern take on a slaw-style salad, Sweet Onion layers tangy feta and dried peaches, pears, and plums with a hearty blend of quinoa, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds for added texture and plant-based protein. Finished with a rich, sweet onion dressing, the kit delivers a balanced combination of sweet, savory, and satisfying crunch in every bite.
Tuscan Zest: A crowd-pleasing, Italian-inspired salad with savory Parmesan crisps, hearty garbanzo beans, and a bold garlic vinaigrette. With naturally occurring protein and a Good Source of Fiber claim, it delivers craveable flavor, satisfying texture, and feel-good nutrition to support your nutrition goals in every bite.
Each kit features the lineup's signature "Boost Your Plate" protein callout, offering simple pairing ideas to consumers that make mealtime planning easier while helping them build a satisfying meal to support their daily protein goals.
"Little Gems Salad Kits filled a gap in the set for shoppers tired of heavy, cabbage-based options, and the response since launch has been incredibly positive," said Tracy Carranza, Vice President of Retail Sales at Church Brothers Farms, in the recent release. "Now consumers are asking for more. Expanding to seven flavors gives our retail partners more variety, more excitement, and a stronger assortment to help grow the category."
The new kits will be on display at Church Brothers Farms' booth #2079 during the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show, October 15 and 16.
