NOGALES, AZ - If you think you are not familiar with IPR Fresh, think again. A growing operation that for over two decades has played a strong supporting role at the Arizona-Mexico veg border, this is a company many have become acquainted with behind the brand. Now, it is ready to come to the forefront.
“This is a pivotal moment for IPR Fresh. Over the past 23 years, the company has built a solid operational foundation rooted in quality, safety, and consistent supply,” Mark Munger, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, shares. “With that foundation firmly in place, IPR Fresh is now focused on the next phase of its evolution—expanding direct relationships with retail and foodservice customers and bringing its high-quality programs more visibly to the marketplace.”
IPR Fresh’s core categories include organic and conventional colored bell peppers, as well as greenhouse cucumbers. The company has established a strong production footprint across Mexico, particularly during the fall, winter, and spring seasons, with expansion plans already underway.
“As part of its continued growth strategy, IPR Fresh is placing a focused emphasis on strengthening its summer supply. The company is actively expanding partnerships with growers in key regions, including the Bajío region of Mexico, to enhance continuity and ensure a reliable, high-quality year-round program,” Mark tells me.
As an industry veteran with experience across multiple categories and brand sizes, Mark himself is a testament to this new and exciting chapter for IPR Fresh.
“What immediately stood out to me was its leadership—specifically, the three Obregon brothers. They bring a rare combination of professionalism, authenticity, and alignment that is evident in both their interactions and their decision-making. There is a clear sense of mutual respect and cohesion among them, which translates into a highly collaborative and values-driven organization,” Mark reflects.
Mark shares that the open office environment reinforces accessibility and transparency, and that a consistent level of respect is shown across the organization. From employees to growers to customers, Mark quickly realized this is a leadership team committed to building a business grounded in integrity, partnership, and long-term growth.
“Equally important, strong leadership attracts strong partners,” he says. “IPR Fresh is strategically aligned with some of the most advanced controlled-environment agriculture growers in Mexico. I had the opportunity to visit several of these operations firsthand, and the level of quality, technology, and attention to detail were exceptional. These are world-class growing partners who share IPR’s commitment to excellence.”
Deeply engaged in the day-to-day operations of the business, the Obregon brothers set the tone for the entire organization, maintaining accessibility to their teams and staying closely connected to the organization's pace. This hands-on approach, combined with a genuine commitment to their employees, growers, and customers, creates a strong sense of trust and partnership Mark points to as a key differentiator in the space.
“Given the strength of their leadership and grower network, there is a significant opportunity to elevate the brand and expand direct partnerships with retail and foodservice customers across North America. I can’t be more excited to play a role in helping with this expansion!” Mark concluded.
Well-positioned to further develop a seamless, 12-month supply offering for its customers, there is clearly much to anticipate from IPR Fresh as it steps into the spotlight of this new chapter.
SOUTHERN CA - As a resident of Orange County, I can say with confidence that our grocery options are vast and diverse, but one thing remains constant: When you make a recommendation to your in-laws, your friends, or even your newest neighbors, the fresh produce will be a key topic.
Shawn Peery, National Vice President of Produce for Albertsons Companies, showcases his appreciation for and comprehension of this law regularly through his Perfecting the Art of Fresh social posts. But when he called out my region, my curiosity was especially piqued.
Perfecting the Art of Fresh “So Cal Style” did not disappoint, starting with an organic highlight that showcased a wall of color breaks before backing away to reveal more and more of an open, orderly, and inviting fresh department.
“Ryan and his team of Produce Artists teaching the fundamentals—culling, cleaning, crisping, detailing!” Shawn shared with his audience. “All day workshops walking the teams through what it takes to run 8+ departments daily!”
The love shown via reactions on LinkedIn ranges from teammates to supply partners, showing a crucial component of the series Shawn has highlighted for me in the past: He said true recognition is for Albertsons’ store teams, merchants, and growers that pour their hearts into their work.
I could not say it better myself, and am certainly on the lookout for the next installment.
